Was Mother Goose Real? Old Mother Goose was actually Elizabeth Mary Foster born in Charlestown, Mass. in the mid 1600s. She married to a man named Isaac Goose and became Elizabeth Mary Goose. When Isaac married Elizabeth, he already had ten children from his late wife. Elizabeth and Isaac had six more together. To calm the children, she told nursery rhymes and sang little jingles to them. In 1712, her eldest daughter married a man from the printing press. He heard the rhymes and jingles then printed them creating what is now considered Mother Goose nursery rhymes. |
